Keeping Your Cool At The Poker Tables |
|
You’ve probably seen it on TV or in movies…poker players fancily flipping around their chips, decked out in a hat, a certain shirt or crazy sunglasses, starring down their opponents, all in the hopes of either distracting or throwing off the other players. It’s a common misconception that playing poker is about the cards when really it is about reading your opponents and keeping your own cool.
The game of poker is all about reading the other players while of course being mindful of the cards that have come and gone. But if you can read other people well, if you can tell when someone is lying or nervous or if you yourself are good at hiding your emotions from others than you just might be the next poker star as what you’re doing is finding other people’s ‘tells’, a useful ability in the game of poker.
A ‘tell’ is a physical reaction, behavior or habit that gives away information about your hand.
It’s about body language, tics or habits that become visible to the expert player that give away what your next move might be. If you can become successful at reading tells as well as hone your own skills at hiding your tells you can master a poker table.
Keeping your cool at the poker tables is one of the most important tools in your arsenal. It can even be as small as how you are betting as even an online casino or poker player can tell when you’re bluffing by the simple way you are betting!
